Design’s Relationship Practices.

Design Relationship, Techsys Digital
Design is defined as a plan or drawing produced to show the look and function or workings of a building, garment, or other object before it is made. hat is often overlooked as a key to successful design is the various relationships which come into play.  These include:

  1. The relationship between objects and subjects portrayed in the design. For example, a website includes fonts, colours and images which play a role in how a user engages with the content displayed on the site. A well-designed page will fulfil its purpose more successfully than a design that lacks a unified quality.
  2. The relationship between the client and designer – This relationship is crucial as it ultimately leads to the development of the design. If there is some sort of obstacle/misunderstanding, the designer can have difficulty creating the client’s vision. A client should be able to communicate their vision effectively in a way that the designer can understand. The designer should also be able to listen and take in what’s being communicated and provide important feedback to the client.
  3. The relationship between design and consumer/user is by far the make or break of a design. A consumer needs to understand what’s in front of them; it needs to captivate their attention and push for some level of engagement i.e clicking on a banner that will direct them to purchase something.

I believe that a designer is a communicator through visuals. Understanding the importance of relationships is vital in aiding the success of a designed product. To be a designer requires more than just the ability to draw and be creative, you need to be able to  communicate effectively with clients and translate those interactions into an engaging design which speaks to the recipients of your work.
